CROWN POINT | Three of five men charged last year with murder and other counts in connection with the death of an East Chicago man pleaded guilty Thursday to criminal recklessness.
Charged in the death of 29-year-old Daviantae Dunham were Chauncey Hackett Jr., 21; Nathan Kincaid, 30; Uther Kincaid, 29; Cameo Samuels, 30; and Fabian Villagomez, 29.
Police responded about 3:30 a.m. July 21 to reports of a large fight in a parking lot in the 3500 block of Guthrie Street in East Chicago.
Witnesses told police Dunham had been jumped, stomped and kicked by a group of men before being shot.
On Thursday, Samuels, Nathan Kincaid and Villagomez each pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal reckless. They each face a maximum of three years in prison at sentencing.
Samuels also pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine. His sentence on the drug charge is to be capped at six years and served consecutively to his criminal recklessness sentence.
All three men admitted to engaging in an altercation with Dunham during which he was struck and fell unconscious.
The plea deals require the men to testify at any potential trials of the current co-defendants and an unidentified defendant who is yet to be charged.
