EAST CHICAGO | One person died and another was injured after a vehicle struck a train Saturday at 407 Huish Drive, East Chicago Police Chief Mark Becker said.
It's uncertain what caused the crash, Becker said. It's possible the vehicle hit a pole and a fire hydrant before it struck the train, he said.
The 76-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was killed, Becker said. A 76-year-old man, who was driving the vehicle, was transported to St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago for treatment.
The identities of the two people weren't immediately available.
Becker said police continue to investigate the crash.
