EAST CHICAGO | Repairs to the Canadian National Railway crossing at Chicago Avenue will close part of the road this week.

The East Chicago road will be closed at the crossing, which is just east of Huish Drive.

The closure is effective from 7 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Friday.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is recommending the following detours:

Eastbound traffic will go north on Indianapolis Boulevard to Columbus Drive, east on Columbus to the Cline Avenue service road and south on the service road to Chicago Avenue.

Westbound traffic will use the same detour in the opposite direction.

Canadian National will handle a local detour that will take northbound traffic on Huish west a block to Kennedy Avenue and then north. Traffic signs advising of the detour will be set up at 148th Street and 149th Street south of Chicago Avenue and 500 feet and 1,000 feet north of Chicago Avenue.

Southbound traffic will use the same detour in the opposite direction.
