EAST CHICAGO | Transit police on Monday were seeking the public's help in identifying a man captured on surveillance video allegedly spray painting graffiti at the East Chicago South Shore station Sunday night.

Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District Police Chief Bob Byrd said the man did about $1,000 damage around 9:30 p.m. Sunday in the stairwells leading up to the elevated platform.

Video surveillance shows the man removing a can of spray paint from his backpack and painting "I love you" and lifelines resembling EKG results on the floors and walls. Byrd said the man put the spray can back in his backpack, then resumed painting many times.

The man then boarded a 10:56 p.m. train to Chicago.

Police asked anyone with information about the individual to contact NICTD transit police at (219) 398-6000.
