Mayor Anthony Copeland and the city of East Chicago will be hosting its annual State of the City address April 3. Copeland will address the public to discuss achievements in the city in 2012 and reveal plans for this year. The speech will be accompanied by a brief presentation.
The city also will honor individuals who have helped our community through their service and dedication in their departments, organizations or as volunteers.
The address will be at 2 p.m. April 3 at the Field Educational Center, 3551 Block Ave. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. RSVP by Monday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., to the mayor’s office at (219) 391-8200.

Also, the East Chicago Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Great Easter Egg Hunt from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Tod Park. Join

Business luncheon
If you own a business in East Chicago, you might be interested in attending an informative upcoming event. Copeland and the Lake Shore Chamber of Commerce will hosting the annual general membership luncheon on Wednesday at Ameristar Casino, 777 Ameristar Blvd., East Chicago.

Looking for a new career? The East Chicago Fire Department is taking applications.
The Fire Department currently has 70 firefighters trained in many different areas, from public fire education to fire suppression and from hazardous materials to emergency medical training.
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen at least 19 at time of application, 21 to 35 at time of hiring, have no felony convictions and possess a high school diploma or GED and valid driver's license. They must be a resident of Lake County or an adjoining Indiana county at time of hiring.
The starting salary is $33,969.52. Benefits include paid vacation, paid sick leave, pension, health insurance and holiday pay.
Apply from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, at the Central Fire Station, 3901 Indianapolis Blvd. The deadline is May 3 and the testing date is June 8.
