EAST CHICAGO | To raise awareness among local women that heart disease is their No. 1 health threat, St. Catherine Hospital, the Multicultural Wellness Network Inc./MOTTEP, and Healthy East Chicago Inc. are partnering to promote The Heart Truth campaign on Friday, which is National Wear Red Day.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of men and women. However, most women fail to make the connection between heart disease risk factors and their own personal risk of developing the disease.

"On Friday, we are inviting social service agencies, business and offices in the City of East Chicago to display information about women and heart disease," said a St. Catherine Hospital spokesperson.

"It is a great opportunity to reach out to women in our community and alert them to their personal risk factors for heart disease. As a result of this campaign, we hope to increase the amount of people we reach with our message as well as develop new contacts and partnerships in the community. Let’s make East Chicago shine in red,"

Any organization of business interested in participating in this campaign is asked to cal Khisha Anderson at (219) 392-7135, Sally Villarreal at (219) 392-7104, both at St. Catherine Hospital; Shelia George at (219) 391-0214 at MOTTEP or Cindy Rivas at (219) 397-6863, ext. 300 at HEC.
