Baked and donated by volunteers, fresh holiday treats will be available for purchase by the pound. All proceeds will benefit Hospice of the Calumet Area. Admission is free.
AIDS symposium at church
GARY | Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Gary Alumnae chapter, in conjunction with the Aliveness Project, hosts an AIDS symposium from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 1831 Virginia St., Gary. A panel of speakers will discuss the disease to bring awareness to the community, provide testing and remember those affected by the disease. Continental breakfast will be served.

'Christmas Long Ago' shown
LOWELL | Buckley Homestead County Park hosts its annual "Christmas Long Ago" performance from 3 to 6 p.m. today and Sunday at the park, 3606 Belshaw Road, Lowell. Visitors will be guided through the barnyard and meet both adults and children getting ready for the holiday as they work on homemade toys, speculate about talking animals on Christmas Eve and bake extra goodies for Christmas morning. Performances last about one and half hours. Dress for the cold, as most of the program is conducted outdoors. Performance times are 3, 3:20, 3:40, 4, 4:20, 4:40, 5, 5:20, 5:40 and 6 p.m. Check in at the Buckley Homestead Visitor Center 10 minutes before your performance time. ABATE collects Toyz 2 Kidz
CROWN POINT | The motorcycle group ABATE of Lake County sponsors a Toyz 4 Kidz Party, an evening of food, friends and dancing to help the Lake County children in need this holiday season. Health center screenings free
CEDAR LAKE | An open house for the new Franciscan Alliance Cedar Lake Health Center is from 1 to 4 p.m. at 681 W. 133rd Ave., Cedar Lake. It features free health screenings for blood glucose, blood pressure and pulmonary function. There also will be refreshments, giveaways and tours.
