EAST CHICAGO | Two employees of a small East Chicago grocery store were shot Tuesday night after an altercation at the business, police said.
Lt. Marguerite Wilder said officers were called at 8:55 p.m. to La Hoya, 4802 Drummond St., for a call of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found the two men with gunshot wounds.
Wilder said one of the employees was shot in the right cheek and the other in the head. The victims told police two people entered the store with their faces covered, and after an exchange of words, one of the suspects shot the employees.
The employees were transported to St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago. Wilder said Wednesday morning one of the men was treated and released. The other was transported by medical helicopter to a Chicago-area trauma center.
Investigators planned to interview him and review surveillance videos from the store Wednesday, Wilder said.
Police asked anyone with information about the crime to contact Detective Maurice Phillips at (219) 391-8306 or the anonymous tip line at (219) 391-8500.
