EAST CHICAGO | The Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal dredging project wrapped up for the calendar year on Aug. 5 and is expected to resume in the spring.

Mike Nguyen, project manager for the Army Corps of Engineers, told the East Chicago Waterway Management District board that a public meeting will be called to announce when dredging will resume.

"It's really up to, basically, weather and when the contractor is ready to start," Nguyen said.

Approximately 400,000 cubic yards of polluted sediment have been removed so far through the dredging project, Nguyen said.
