Lake Central High School

John J. Watkins

ST. JOHN — Parents will have an opportunity to tour a life-size exhibit of a teen's bedroom and look for signs of alcohol or drug misuse during a presentation Thursday at Lake Central High School.

The Wake Up Call presentation is set for 6:30 to 8 p.m. and includes an exhibit with more than 20 red flags that can signal drug or alcohol misuse.

“Our goal is to educate parents and other adults who are influential in the lives of youth so they know what seemingly innocent items can actually be an indication of substance abuse,” Sandi Lybert, founder of Your Choice and Wake Up Call presenter, said in a news release.

The Wake Up Call bedroom identifies spots where teens may hide drugs, household items that can be used as drug paraphernalia and ways teens try to cover up drug and alcohol use. Presenters also will talk about the signs and symptoms associated with drug and alcohol use, and audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions.

The free presentation is open to parents, grandparents, educators and community members — who are over age 21 — from throughout the Region, officials said.

To register for the event at Lake Central or upcoming Wake Up Call presentations in Chesterton, Highland and Lake Station, go to and look up Wake Up Call events in Indiana.

It's important to address teen alcohol and drug use as soon as possible, before it escalates into an addiction or leads to other risky behavior, officials said.

The presentation is sponsored by the Lake Central School Corp., Your Choice to Live and Rosecrance.
