Hazardous driving conditions are forecast for this morning after light rain and drizzle were expected overnight.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for Jasper, Lake, Newton, Porter, Cook and Will counties, warning of the potential for freezing rain and ice on area roads into this morning, especially south of Interstate 80.

Temperatures are expected to be close to freezing and may fall below freezing this afternoon. Drizzle and light rain could freeze, causing a glaze of ice on roadways.

A major storm could affect travel tonight into Sunday. A storm front moving toward the region could produce accumulating snow, sleet and freezing rain.
