EAST CHICAGO — The Indiana Youth Institute, Foundations of East Chicago and Boys & Girls Club of Northwest Indiana are teaming up to host a free event for educators, youth workers, community leaders, parents and other caring adults to learn how to address achievement and opportunity gaps through their student programming. This Youth Worker Café will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at School City of East Chicago’s Administration Building, 1401 E. 144th St.

Melba Salmon with The Practical Counselor will show attendees how to use data to guide work and critical discussions of the core issues and realities that create achievement gaps. Attendees will learn how to connect youth to services that enable mobility, as well as how to apply new knowledge to equity efforts in the kindergarten-12 school environment and community organizations.

As part of IYI’s Youth Worker Café program, the forum and lunch are free, but reservations are required. RSVP at www.iyi.org/calendar.
