GARY | The Aliveness Project of Northwest Indiana will host a “Take the Test, Take Control” event Friday aimed at testing as many people for HIV as possible.

The National Get Tested Day event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Gary Community HealthNet, 1021 W. Fifth Ave. The testing will be done using the Oraquick Rapid HIV test Mouth Swab. It takes only 20 minutes to receive results.

Lake County has the second highest rate of HIV infection of Indiana’s 92 counties. This event also will provide information on prevention, free HIV testing, safer sex kits, food, music, and community awareness.

The Aliveness Project serves Lake, Porter, Jasper, and Newton counties by providing free HIV testing, care coordination services for those needing supportive services, and empowering the community through education and awareness of HIV. For more information, contact Jason or Nakia at (219) 985-6170 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
