GARY | A semitrailer struck and killed a 39-year-old Schererville man in Gary early Wednesday morning, according to the Lake County coroner's office.

Jovan Beric, of the 1900 block of Burgundy Street in Schererville, was pronounced dead at 6:45 a.m., and his death was ruled the result of blunt force injuries. The death occurred at 3301 Grant St. and was the result of an apparent accident between Beric, a pedestrian, and a semitrailer, the coroner's office said.

The Gary Police Department also is involved in the investigation, but a police spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday seeking details on the incident or if punishment would be sought by the truck driver.
