Motorcycle racing leads to crash, brain injuries and charges
A 27-year-old Gary man allegedly racing his motorcycle on the Borman Expressway Wednesday night suffered brain injuries after losing control and being thrown from the back of the bike, police said.
He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Witnesses told Indiana State Police at 10:09 p.m., two motorcycles were speeding and racing on westbound Interstate 80 and exited onto the Grant Street ramp.
A motorcycle being driven by Darnell K. Reynolds, 27, of Gary left the roadway, throwing him to the ground, police said.
Reynolds was transfered to The Methodist Hospitals' Northlake Campus in Gary with facial fractures and bleeding on the brain.
According to police, Reynolds was cited for violating the terms of a learner's permit in connection with the accident.
