GARY | Saturday marks the two-year anniversary of Michael Jackson's death, and the city of Gary will host a memorial tribute in honor of the hometown boy turned pop star.
"The world is invited," Mayor Rudy Clay stated in a news release.
The tribute is from 5 to 8 p.m. at 2300 Jackson St., where Jackson and his famous siblings spent their childhood years.
"We host his event because Gary, Indiana, is Michael's hometown," Clay stated. "Thousands of people have come and continue to come to Gary to visit the Jackson house. We anticipate that June 25 will generate a significant increase in visitors to the area."
Saturday's event will showcase A Beautiful Soul as well as an open mike for poets, musicians, vocalists and artists. A candlelight vigil will take place at dusk. Those attending are asked to bring candles with them for the ceremony.
