HOBART | "What’s God Doing in the Arts?" is a Christian-based publication stemming from the ministry Artist’s Refuge Network, a Christian-based striving to connect artists for networking purposes.
Its goal is to unite and be supportive to both visual and performing artists. This ministry started in the late 1980’s in Chicago, ended in the early 1990’s and through a shift of gears has been resurrected in Northwest Indiana.
A fundraising concert featuring singer/songwriter Gene Schmidt, from Wisconsin, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Hobart Assembly of God, 7545 E. Ridge Road, Hobart. Other Christian performers for the evening are: The Hobart Assembly Praise Band with Rebecca McDowell, Hobart Assembly Praise Leader Dave Priest and Friends, and James Veatch.
All proceeds from this event will be applied to The Art House Project, offering live/work spaces for Christian artists in NW Indiana. Supporters can also donate through the website, www.artistsrefugenetwork.com. The goal for Phase 1 is $6,000 by Monday.
For four years, Artist’s Refuge Network has been producing a cable television show, "The A List," an outreach to local Christian artists that airs at 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays on Comcast channel 21, WJPN, Gary Access Center, Gary.
To be considered as a guest on "The A List," an application is required along with non-returnable samples of the artist's work. All age groups are welcome. Contact the group by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message at (312) 494-5844.
