Gary author Lisa Chism aims to help readers maintain the qualities that make them unique with her book, "My Prayer for You Is. . ."
Released in November by Tate Publishing, the book sprung from Chism’s desire to pass on foundational wisdom about life to her nieces.
“One thing that I want to give readers is (the idea that it is) their God-given right to be uniquely individual. Every day we face so many images and voices that are trying to mold us into who they say we should be,” Chism, 48, said.
“The book is a guide to break free from the molds that try to entrap us and to live for God as we were originally created to do.”
The book, Chism’s first, is available at amazon.com and also discusses how a reader’s focus can determine their success.
“Most people seek external solutions to things that are actually internal issues. I believe that how we perceive ourselves and what we identify ourselves with are foundational to how we deal with obstacles and stumbling blocks,” she said.
“Many believers struggle with living life with an undivided God-centered and eternal view. Ultimately, I want the reader to overcome the fear, unbelief, pride, or whatever hinders them from living for God or living His best life for them.”
Chism attended Roosevelt High School in Gary, and graduated in 1989 from Sawyer Business College with a secretarial accounting degree. She earned an English literature degree from Purdue University Calumet in 2006.
As a member of Bibleway Church of God’s Word in Gary, Chism works with several outreach ministries, including a prison fellowship at Westville Correctional Facility, Indiana State Prison and the Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.
