GARY | Memorial Day got too hot for one motorist this year, officials said.

Indiana State Police and the Gary Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire on Interstate 80/94 after a truck caught on fire from a hot barbecue grill, according to a state police news release.

A Tennessee man was driving a 1999 Ford truck on I-80/94 near the Martin Luther King Jr. overpass when it caught on fire.

The man said one of the three grills loaded into the back of the truck had hot coals still in it, unbeknown to him, the release states.

The fire was extinguished and the man was able to drive away in the damaged truck, the release states.
