GARY | The Anthropology Club’s Big One-Dollar Book Sale at Indiana University Northwest will return the week of March 18 and run for four days. The popular sale will take place in the Moraine Student Center, next to the Savannah Center.

The sale’s hours are from 9:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. The last day of the sale will be March 21.

The books span all genres and varieties, including popular fiction, literature, non-fiction, specialty titles, and many used textbooks. All books will cost $1, with discounts for quantity purchases.

Funds raised through the book sale are used to support Anthropology Club scholarships, academic achievement awards and club-sponsored special events. The club has been able to donate thousands of dollars each year for student field-research stipends and other academic undertakings thanks to the community’s generous support of this event. The sale typically takes place each autumn and spring.

Associate Professor of Anthropology Robert Mucci said the sales typically yield about $4,000 per year, half of which comes from donated books that the Anthropology Club sells online. The club recently donated $8,000 to fund two IU Foundation scholarships as well as more than $2,000 to the Anthropology Lab to buy specimens and equipment for the forensic anthropology and archaeology classes.

The IU Northwest Anthropology Club will accept book donations during the sale. Those who wish to donate large quantities of books may contact Dr. Mucci at (219) 980-6607, or they may notify someone at the sale so that arrangements can be made to pick up the donated books from the donor’s vehicle.

The Moraine Student Center is located at the southeast corner of the main campus parking lot at 33rd Avenue and Broadway in Gary, one half-mile south of I-80/94.
