HAMMOND | A Gary man allegedly part of the Black Disciples street gang was sentenced Tuesday in federal court to 10 years and three months in prison, according to court records.
Brian Washington pleaded guilty in July to knowingly and intentionally distributing a mixture or substance containing more than 28 grams of cocaine base and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, according to a plea agreement.
The case was part of a larger federal investigation into the Black Disciples drug and gun dealing. Washington was one of 16 alleged gang members who were charged as part of the investigation.
According to federal authorities, officials obtained through the investigation 1.3 kilograms of cocaine, .44 kilograms of heroin and recovered 39 firearms.
