GARY | An 8-year-old boy reportedly was shot and wounded by his 11-year-old brother when a gun the two were playing with accidentally discharged Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred while the two boys were visiting a neighbor’s house in the 200 block of Hanley Street around 3:13 p.m., according to reports.

While the boys were inside the residence, they reportedly found a handgun on a dresser and picked it up to play with, thinking it was a toy.

The 11-year-old reportedly pulled the trigger and the gun went off, striking the 8-year-old in the shoulder.

The homeowner reportedly took the child to an area emergency room for treatment of his injuries.
