GARY | A Crown Point man was arrested Wednesday and is accused of selling insurance without a broker's license to the elderly in Gary, police said.
Marlon L. Underwood, 39, is charged with one count of corrupt business influence, five counts of forgery and fives counts of identity deception. He was arrested in Michigan City and booked into the Lake County Jail without bail.
Indiana State Police said officers have been investigating Underwood since July 2012, when they received a complaint of possible insurance fraud.
Underwood previously worked at the American Freedom Financial Insurance office in Highland. His insurance broker's license was suspended in 2010, according to a news release from Indiana State Police.
He sold accident, health and life insurance, according to the Indiana Department of Insurance's website.
Ann Wojas, a spokeswoman for Indiana State Police, said she did not know how many clients Underwood had.
Anyone who purchased insurance through Underwood is asked to call Indiana State Police Detective Joe White at (219) 696-6242. Wojas said police believe Underwood had more clients who have not realized he wasn't authorized to sell insurance.
