CALUMET TWP. | Calumet Township Trustee Mary Elgin's office is again providing assistance for low-income families whose children need school uniforms this year.
Elgin announced Monday families may apply for school uniform vouchers for public, private or charter schools Aug. 12 at the trustee's office, 610 Connecticut St., Gary.
Applicants must prove they have lived in the township at least six months, meet township income assistance guidelines, provide birth certificates for all minors in the household, Social Security identification for all household members and a photo identification for the head of the household.
Applicants also must provide documents verifying acceptance into school and verifying that family expenses for the past 30 days meet township assistance guidelines, as well as documents showing they are in compliance with the state's IMPACT job training program and haven't been sanctioned for food stamp violations in the past 90 days.
Vouchers to obtain uniforms will be available Aug. 16, Aug. 23 and Aug. 30.
