GARY | Police recovered a man's car after two men forcefully took it from him in a liquor store parking lot early Sunday, officials said.
The man said he was sitting in his car when a man approached him and asked for a lighter at a liquor store at 21st Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive around midnight, police said.
The man standing outside the car then demanded to see the driver's wallet and reached into the car and turned off the car's ignition, according to a police report.
When the driver looked to his right he noticed a dark SUV had pulled into the parking spot next to him and the driver of that vehicle had a silver gun pointed through the window at him, police said.
As the man tried to get away, the man standing outside his vehicle allegedly broke his window and pulled him out of the car and began beating him. The man with the gun also got out of the SUV and began punching and kicking him, he told police.
One of the men took his wallet from his pocket and both people fled the area, one in the victim's car and the other in the SUV, police said.
The man's car was found about a mile away shortly after police arrived at the liquor store. The wallet and a gym bag were missing from the car, police said.
