GARY | Majestic Star Casino partnered with the City of Gary and the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana for the second annual Citywide Thanksgiving Giveaway.
Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson’s goal was to provide Thanksgiving bags of food for 500 families, and the casino helped her exceed that goal by feeding 755 pre-selected families for the holiday.
“Once again, the team members of Majestic Star shopped for food to donate for the Citywide Thanksgiving Giveaway,” said Craig Ghelfi, general manager for Majestic Star and board member for the food bank. "We have a group of team members that are very giving, dedicated and enjoy making a difference in the lives of others. Our team purchased enough items to feed the 700 families."
The donation consisted of 100 turkeys, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, corn, green beans, collard greens, mashed potatoes, gravy, desserts, macaroni and cheese, corn bread, sardines, rice, spaghetti, cake mix, beans and spinach.
Lee Muhleman, a member of the Indiana Northwest Regional Sports Car Club of America, also wanted to help make a difference, so the race car group donated $500 dollars worth of food and 15 turkeys for the giveaway.
The group has raced in the casino's hotel parking lot for several years and has partnered with the casino in the past to donate food during the holidays.
