CROWN POINT | Prosecutors on Tuesday dismissed charges against a Gary man accused of striking his pregnant stepdaughter.

Testimony by the girl, 17, contrary to earlier statements would prevent the state from proving its case against 40-year-old Glen Spicer, according to court records.

Spicer was charged with battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman, criminal confinement and battery after the girl told police he grabbed her by the wrists, slammed her into a refrigerator and struck her in the mouth, court records state.

Defense attorney Brian Bennet, of Valparaiso, stated in a news release that family members and witnesses present during the incident, which stemmed from a family argument, contradicted the accusations and supported the outcome.
