CROWN POINT | A convicted sex offender released from prison last year has been charged with two counts of child molesting.
Edward Neely, 50, of Gary, is accused of molesting two brothers, now ages 12 and 9, on separate occasions when the boys were staying overnight in his basement apartment in the 400 block of East 45th Avenue.
The incidents are alleged to have occurred between July 15 and Nov. 8 in 2012.
One of the brothers told authorities the boys had met Neely through a third brother, age 10, who told police Neely never touched him but had "felt on his brothers."
The boys reported Neely offering them hundreds of dollars in cash and other gifts including candy and an Xbox 360.
Having learned of Neely's prior child molesting conviction, Gary police contacted the Lake County Violent and Sex Offenders Division to inquire when Neely would next register. Neely was then taken in for questioning, the affidavit states.
Neely told police he knew the boys' mother, who lived four doors down from his apartment, alleging the woman was his girlfriend from April to November of last year.
According to the affidavit, Neely admitted giving gifts to the boys, who were frequently at his home spending the night.
Neely admitted to sexual relations with the boys on three separate occasions, telling police he knew he was doing something wrong yet "in a way constructive."
"I was showing him what an unnatural act was," Neely told police.
