The 48-year-old man, whose name is being withheld until his family can be notified, was found shortly before 7 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of a church in the 1400 block of 49th Avenue, Gary police Cpl. Gabrielle King said.

The man was a known copper thief who apparently climbed a utility pole some time during the night, cut a wire and was electrocuted, and fell to the parking lot below, King said.
