GARY | The eastbound Borman Expressway reopened at the 8.4 mile marker just before Grant Street after a multi-vehicle crash with serious injuries closed all lanes, police said.

Indiana State Police earlier asked motorists to seek alternate routes for their morning commute.

Police said the accident occurred around 4:45 a.m. and involved a semi and two passenger vehicles. All lanes reopened about an hour later.

Black ice was a problem on the roadway near the accident scene, police said.

The wind chill in Gary at the time of the crash was 3 below zero.
