GARY | Strengthening families is a goal for 2013 at the Gary Housing Authority, and to reach this goal, GHA has collaborated with community partner Indiana Parenting Institute to better support and serve its residents.
Through onsite parenting and life skills workshops, activities, and connection to needed resources in the community, families at GHA now have access to assistance needed to establish and realize their goals.
Beginning last month at GHA’s Concord Village Community Center, 5001 W. 19th Ave., parents can get answers to their toughest parenting and relationship questions, get assistance connecting with needed resources in the community, as well as learn how to overcome life’s obstacles to reach their goals at weekly B2E ParentTips Sessions.
These sessions, facilitated by IPI, meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and assist parents in cultivating healthy family relationships and healthy home environments.
“We are excited about this opportunity. It has always been a goal of GHA’s to help improve the well-being of its residents. And partnering with a community organization that has the track record that IPI has only bolsters our confidence that we are on the right track to bringing the best our community has to offer to our families,” GHA Executive Director Delvert Cole said.
During sessions, parents come together for fellowship and to engage in lively discussions on a variety of topics, including: bullying, excelling in school, talking back, disobedience, tantrums, truancy, resolving conflicts, handling crises, beneficial home management, eating and shopping healthily, stretching dollars, and improving relationships.
Refreshments and giveaways are also provided.
