GARY | When Crystal O’Brien decided to have a fundraiser to help send her daughter to a dance academy in California, she didn’t want to sell candy.
She wanted to do something healthy.
She developed the High F.I.V.E. event in an effort to promote fitness and wellness for families, she said.
The fundraiser is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hudson Campbell Fitness Center, 455 Massachusetts St., Gary.
O’Brien said multiple personal trainers will attend the program to provide demonstrations of the services they provide.
Hip Hop cardio, circuit training, yoga, Zumba, TRX and Sweat with Swagg are among fitness classes also available at the High F.I.V.E. program.
O’Brien said the classes will be offered in a “demonstration style,” so people attending the event can try multiple classes without becoming overly tired.
She said another component of the fundraiser focuses on children.
Asia’s Dance Factory and the Gary Youth Movement are among groups that will be at the site to showcase youth activities available in the area.
Several health vendors also will be at the event, O’Brien said.
Cost is $25 for families of four, $10 for individuals and $5 for each additional family member.
O’Brien said her daughter, Marie Watson, has been accepted to attend the upcoming Debbie Allen Dance Academy Summer Intensive camp in Los Angeles, and funds generated through Saturday’s event will help send her daughter to the camp.
O’Brien said she has promoted the High F.I.V.E. event in a variety of ways, and she has received positive feedback from the community.
“We’re hoping to have a pretty big turnout,” she said.
