GARY | The principal of Roosevelt College and Career Academy has reportedly taken a job with the Gary Community School Corp.
Terrance Little has been hired as the transformational specialist for culture, climate and special education for the Gary schools.
Little could not be reached for comment Thursday morning.
Little was hired to be Roosevelt's turnaround principal by Tennessee-based EdisonLearning, which is the management company appointed by the state to turn around the failing high school.
"We are well aware of the action taken Tuesday evening, and at this time his status at Roosevelt has not changed," EdisonLearning spokesman Michael Serpe said.
It is not clear what this will mean for the future of Roosevelt. The management company and the district have had an acrimonious relationship. EdisonLearning has filed a couple of lawsuits against the district, one regarding student records and another over building maintenance.
Gary Superintendent Cheryl Pruitt has previously said transformation specialists would be hired by the district to focus on improving schools with an F rating from the state.
In addition to Little, the school board voted to hire Clifford Gooden as transformation specialist for leadership. Gooden is a former Gary school teacher and administrator. It did not hire anyone yet for the position of transformation specialist for curriculum and instruction. All three positions will pay $90,000 for six months, with the jobs starting in March.
Gary school spokeswoman Charmella Greer said the money will not come out the district's stressed general fund, but will be paid out of Title I and Title II funds.
In addition, Greer said the board voted to transfer $14 million from its rainy day fund to the general fund, which is mostly used for salary and benefits and some programs.
