The Gary Community School Corporation Board of Trustees recently reappointed Robert L. Buggs Sr. to the Gary Public Library Board of Trustees.
Buggs is a native of Madison, Miss. and has resided in Gary since 1964. He holds a master’s degree in criminal justice and public management from Indiana University Northwest, where he was an adjunct professor until the spring of 2011.
Buggs is a community activist and avid volunteer for nonprofit organizations. He is a board member of The Urban League, and an active member of the NAACP, Gary Frontiers and Kiwanis Club. Buggs was also an auxiliary police officer with the Gary Police Department for five years.
In regards to the Gary Public Library and Cultural Center, Buggs notes his vision is to “expedite the contractual obligation to reopen the library before November.”
His vision also includes “establishing a nonprofit organization to seek federal grants” as well as “to actively seek funds from private donors and business to generate funds on a perpetual basis.”
Buggs’ term on the library board expires in June, 2017.
