GARY | A 39-year-old man accused of beating and strangling his girlfriend was arrested Thursday, deputies said.
Freeman G. Pace Jr., of Gary, is facing two counts of criminal confinement, strangulation and battery resulting in a bodily injury, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Department.
The woman told deputies the couple got into an argument Wednesday after visiting a friend's house, according to the release.
Pace hit his girlfriend several times and kicked her, deputies said. He also allegedly stopped her from leaving his car. According to the release, Pace strangled his girlfriend until she became faint.
Eventually, the woman was able to seek help after he fell asleep for the night, deputies said. She was treated for her injuries at Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary.
