GARY | A 37-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly firing a shotgun in the 2400 block of Arthur Street.

Police said Jermel Washington has been charged with criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and possession of a sawed-off shotgun after officers were called to the building around 2:18 a.m.

A description of the suspect led police to the 1900 block of West 24th Lane where they confronted Washington in the hallway of his apartment building. Washington reportedly ran inside his apartment, where officers eventually apprehended him and recovered a shotgun and shotgun shells.
