GARY | The death of a Gary man found late Sunday in the alley behind his home has been ruled a homicide.

Pierre A. Dennis, 40, of the 3600 block of Tyler Street, was found dead at 10:40 p.m. in the alley at 37th Avenue and Tyler Street, according to the Lake County coroner's office.

The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound suffered in a homicide.

Cpl. Gary King, spokeswoman for the Gary Police Department, said a woman drove past the alley around 10 p.m. and called police reporting she thought she saw a person there.

When officers arrived, they found Dennis unresponsive, King said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
