CROWN POINT | A 35-year-old Gary man who admitted having sexual relations with two young relatives was handed a 20-year prison sentence Tuesday.
David Urbaszewski was charged in February 2012 with multiple felonies in the case, which was first reported to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and investigated by Lake County police.
Authorities said the crimes occurred between February 2011 and January 2012, while the girls were living with relatives in Gary.
The girls, then 13 and 14, told authorities they were made to sleep on couches in the living room where they were forced into sex.
In pleading guilty to two counts of child molesting, Urbaszewski admitted to having sex with the two siblings between February 2011 and January 2012 while staying at a residence in the 4300 block of Taft Street in Gary.
He agreed to a 10-year sentence on each count with two years to be suspended and served on probation.
In exchange, prosecutors dismissed the remaining counts and charges against Urbaszewski in two additional, separate cases. Urbaszewski also faced charges alleging he stole bronze nameplates from an area cemetery and struck a law enforcement animal.
