GARY | A 19-year-old man was killed and two teens wounded Saturday night when the car they were riding in was fired upon in the area of 19th and Chase streets.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. The victims told police they were sitting in their vehicle when they suddenly heard shots being fired at their car.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly drove to an area emergency room for treatment after realizing a short time after hearing the shots that he and the other passengers had been hit, according to reports.

Two teens, a 17-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, were reportedly shot in the back while a third, who the Lake County Coroner’s Office has identified as 19-year-old Tre Buggs, died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police have asked anyone with information on the case to contact Gary police Cpl. Ed Gonzalez at (219) 881-4750 or Detective Lorenzo Davis at (219) 881-4738.
