GARY | A 22-year-old Gary man was shot and killed and two other people were injured in drive-by shootings in the city's Aetna neighborhood early Monday, officials said.
Marshall Brown Jr., 22, of 5801 E. 13th Place in Gary, was pronounced dead at 1:47 a.m. at the Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary, according to a news release from the Lake County coroner's office.
The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the chest suffered in an apparent homicide.
Officers were called at 12:49 a.m. to 11th Avenue and New Jersey Street for a call of shots fired, police Cpl. Gabrielle King said.
When officers arrived, they stopped a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle told police she just received a call saying her brother had been shot and directed officers to the 4100 block of East 11th Avenue.
Officers found a 27-year-old man there who said he got out of his vehicle and was walking toward his home when he was shot by someone driving by. Paramedics transported the man to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary for treatment.
While officers were at the hospital, officers made contact with Brown and his father, who were being treated there for gunshot wounds. His father told police they were shot at while driving in the 4100 block of East 11th Avenue.
