CROWN POINT | Lake Criminal Court Judge Samuel L. Cappas sentenced a Gary man to 20 years in prison Friday for a 2012 homicide.

Jeron Jordan, 23, pleaded guilty last month to voluntary manslaughter and criminal recklessness in the shooting death of Bruce Morgan, 22, of Gary.

Police allege Jordan was one of several people asked to leave a party June 4, 2012, in the 2900 block of West 18th Ave., just west of Tolleston Park. Police said the victim was leaving the party a short time later when Jordan opened fire on him, hitting him with 17 bullets in the chest, stomach, arms, legs and back.

The Lake County prosecutor's office initially charged Jordan with murder, but dismissed that count under a plea agreement in which he admitted to the lesser charge. He was given credit for having served 599 days in jail while awaiting trial.
