GARY | A 33-year-old man who was in a Chicago area hospital recovering from an August shooting in Gary died early Tuesday.
Tyrisce Calhoun, of Gary, died at 4:45 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. The death was ruled a homicide.
Gary police previously said that Calhoun was outside of the Oak Knoll Renaissance Apartments at about 1:30 a.m. Aug. 8 with other people when a man wearing a black sweatshirt came up to him.
The man shot Calhoun several times in the upper body, police said. He was taken to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary and later airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he has remained for the past month.
