HAMMOND | Two Gary men were indicted on bank robbery charges Thursday in U.S. District Court in Hammond.

Brealon B. Miller Jr., 24, and David L. Hardin Jr., 22, are charged with the Dec. 21 armed robbery of the BMO Harris Bank in Hammond. Miller is also charged with possession of a stolen Baretta 9 mm pistol.

One suspect entered the bank and held a gun to the security guard’s neck, ordering her to the floor, according to the indictment. The man took the guard's handgun, jumped over the counter and took cash from the teller drawers, according to court records.

The other man consolidated the customers in the middle of the bank, court records state. The men then found the manager, entered the bank vault and fled with $202,000 in cash, according to the indictment.

A Hammond police officer who arrived on the scene was shot three times in the leg as the men attempted to escape. A pursuit ended a short time later near Seventh Avenue and Matthew Street in Gary, according to the indictment.
