GARY | Gary motorists were warned Monday to not park in areas where signs indicate parking is prohibited if there is more than 2 inches of snow.
Officials are enforcing the regulation in anticipation for snow expected to start Monday night, according to a news release from the city.
Lake County and Porter County are under a winter storm warning until Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service's website. The Chicago area is expected to receive 4 to 7 inches of snow.
The snow is expected to start about 3 a.m. Tuesday and could drop about 1 inch of snow per hour at times, according to the National Weather Service.
Gary officials said the enforcement of the regulation will help move plows through streets faster. Anyone who parks in the zones where sings warn not to park because of snow will be towed, according to a release.
