GARY | Law enforcement, education and municipal leaders plan to explain updates and guidelines for Project Rebuild at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Gary Public Safety Facility community room, 555 Polk St.

Formerly known as the the Gary City Truancy Court Program, Project Rebuild aims to reduce school truancy through a variety of techniques, including parent and youth accountability and activities.

According to the city, chronic truancy is linked to social problems, such as substance abuse, poverty and poor physical and mental health. Those problems can lead to higher crime rates, especially in urban communities.
