GARY | A husband and wife who reported being victims of a home invasion were charged after police said they found drugs inside their residence Tuesday night.

According to reports, officers were called to the residence in the 6100 block of West 35th Avenue around 10:40 p.m.

Police said a 57-year-old man and his 41-year-old wife reported they had been beaten by a group of men who had broken into their home.

While conducting a search of the home, police said officers discovered a number of what appeared to be marijuana plants.

Police said the man and his wife told officers they were inside the home when the men broke inside demanding money and drugs. The couple reportedly told police the men beat them, but that the woman was able to escape to a neighbor’s house while the men were busy ransacking the home.

The husband and wife were both arrested and each charged with possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.
