MERRILLVILLE | A 60-year-old woman died three days after being assaulted, Lake County officials said.
Dorothy Griffin, of Gary, died at Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus in Merrillville on Monday, officials said.
Gary police responded to a call for an assault around 9:50 a.m. Friday at a residence in the 1900 block of West 5th Avenue involving Griffin, according to dispatch records.
The Lake County coroner's office was dispatched to the hospital around 4:35 p.m. Monday, where Griffin was pronounced dead as the result of an apparent homicide, according a coroner's news release.
Griffin suffered blunt force trauma and Gary police are investigating.
