HAMMOND | A Gary woman is accused in Hammond federal court of embezzling an undisclosed amount of funds from a region labor union, a federal indictment unsealed Tuesday shows.
Tracey Tigner, 41, is accused of stealing the money from the Painters District Council 91, federal court records state. District Council 91 covers the state of Indiana, central Kentucky and a portion of Tennessee, one labor official said.
"We're just happy that justice is prevailing and moving forward," said Henry Sierra, business manager/secretary treasurer of District Council 91.
The investigation was handled by the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Inspector General and the Office of Labor Management Standards, according to a release from the U.S. attorney's office in Hammond.
