GARY | A 64-year-old woman is $1 million richer after a trip to a 7-Eleven.

Kathleen Burney, of Gary, won $1 million in a $3 million cash jackpot instant lottery ticket from the Illinois Lottery, according to a news release from the Illinois Lottery.

Burney was visiting her younger brother in Chicago when they stopped at the 7-Eleven at 6801 North Western Avenue in Chicago. She bought the ticket and discovered she won while in her brother's car.

"I couldn't stop screaming when I saw the three pineapple symbols with the $1 million number next to it," she said in a prepared statement. "My brother had to hit the brakes!"

Burney told the Illinois Lottery she plans to use the money to help her family and wants to donate a portion to her church. She has two children and is a retired therapist.

The 7-Eleven store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Burney told the Illinois Lottery people should continue playing the lottery with caution.

"Keep playing but do it responsibly," she said.
