GARY | Majestic Star Casino & Hotel hosted its annual charity golfing outing fundraiser at Sherwood Golf Course in Schererville to benefit the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana.
The event sold out with 30 teams, 120 golfers and 25 vendors that donated items for the outing along with taking time to play golf. Former NBA Chicago Bulls player Cliff Levingston helped make a difference for the event.
The fundraiser was led by Sonja Dactelides from Majestic Star’s Human Resources Department and Gene Stubblefield of Food & Beverage.
“I was delighted to see the participation from our team members and vendors, kudos to everyone that helped support this worthy cause,” said Craig Ghelfi, general manager for Majestic Star Casino and Hotel and board member for the Food Bank of NWI. The team annually challenges itself to generate more revenue than the year before.
“Special thanks to Majestic Star for helping to fight hunger and feeding hope, we had a beautiful sunny day for golf," said Victor Ortiz, operations manager for the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. "We are truly appreciative of Majestic Star’s team and vendors for feeding hope and giving a lot."
The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana was founded in 1982 in a barn, but has grown into a facility that acquires, stores and distributes more than 4.9 million pounds of food annually throughout Lake and Porter counties. It is a USDA-approved, primary distributor of food to local pantries, shelters, day care centers, and soup kitchens.
